The Morning of Surgery

  • For patients under age 18, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient to sign the surgical consent.
  • Legal documentation must be presented for the following situations: 1) Power of Attorney 2) Legal guardianship 3) Emancipated minor.
  • Bring your completed insurance card/form or Medicare card and a list of current medications.
  • Please bring an interpreter with you, if necessary.
  • If you currently take insulin or use an inhaler, please bring these medications with you.
  • Leave jewelry and other valuables at home.
  • Shower or bathe to minimize the chance of infection.
  • Do not wear make-up.
  • Do bring glasses and case if you need them for reading.
  • If you wear contact lenses, you may be asked to remove them before surgery. Please bring your lens supplies and glasses.
  • If a child is having surgery, please make sure to bring a comforting toy. blanket, pacifier, bottle, or sip cup for after surgery.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing to RiverPointe. You will find this especially helpful when returning home, because you will want to avoid any unnecessary pressure on sensitive surgery sites. Flat shoes and slip-on styles are best.
